Cross Vegas Registration Opens This Saturday @ Noon

first_imgThe shuttles run ’til 11pm, but take it from this guy, the Registration isn’t the only thing that fills up fast.  If you don’t have to catch the finish, go ahead and line up early. Get you’re clicking fingers ready because registration for Cross Vegas, America’s biggest, baddest cyclocross race, opens this Saturday, August 1 at 12 noon (EST), and it’ll fill up fast.  Categories for Elite Men, Elite Women and Wheelers & Dealers (Industry) are all open to enter. This year’s spectator format will be a little different than what past attendees may have experienced.  Due to the massive crowds and popularity, the event organizers are being required to use street-side fencing to keep people from jay walking, and they’re actually charging for admission ($8) and beer (probably also $8…each), and they’ll be checking bags to keep outside food and drink from getting in and stealing sales from their vendors.  Good event, lame that we can’t bring our own drinks.  Perhaps we’re higher class than NASCAR, but still…The race is held on the first night of the Interbike tradeshow, September 23.  Gates open at 6pm.  Registration will be through BikeReg if you want to bookmark it now.  Hit ‘more’ to see the event poster…last_img read more

America’s Largest Seed Fund In Albuquerque Aug. 14

first_imgEach year, these agencies award more than $3 billion in seed funds to over 5,000 high-tech research and development firms.Elizabeth Valenti, president of WorldWinds, Inc. is a recipient of one of these awards. The U.S. Small Business Administration’s National SBIR Road Tour is coming to Albuquerque Aug. 14 as part of a 16-stop tour to connect entrepreneurs working on advanced technology to 11 federal agencies, including the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health. For more information on the SBIR Road Tour, including a schedule of stops and participating agencies visit: www.sbirroadtour.com.   It’s time to take your idea to the next level to help build a strong national economy, increase global competitiveness and contribute to the creation of good paying jobs. Also known as America’s Seed Fund, the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs focus on next generation research & development (R&D) and is led by the SBA. When Hurricane Irma hit Puerto Rico, WorldWinds technology helped a commercial aircraft navigate in category 5 hurricane winds, carrying 173 passengers to safety.  (Justin Crossie is the regional administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s South Central Region, serving, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.) Valenti said she owes a large part of her small business success to SBIR funding.  By JUSTIN CROSSIE,Regional Administrator, Region VI The nation’s booming economy is buoyed by small business innovators who are looking to turn a big idea into an American success story.  Armed with an engineering background, Valenti received funding to develop technology that has equipped NASA and FEMA with high quality remotely sensed weather data to help commercial aircraft better navigate during inclement weather. The stop in Albuquerque will be hosted by Arrowhead Center, NM FAST at the Albuquerque Convention Center at 401 2nd St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.  Find out more information on the SBA’s programs and services by visiting www.sba.gov, or contact the SBA New Mexico District Office led by Director John Garcia at 505.248.8225.
